RTX 4090 and H100 are vastly different from each other concerning their application and usage. Despite being extraordinarily robust and formidable graphics processors of their generation, both serve a different purpose in the world of graphical computing. Both pack a massive punch in their performance, but one has a better situational performance than the other.
The RTX 4090 is designed to be a mainstream graphics card, catering to the most hardcore computer enthusiasts and gamers with its sweet suite of AI-powered cores and tremendous graphical capabilities. Meanwhile, the H100 is the brainchild of Nvidia, purposed to provide extreme parallel computing power useful for AI and language model development/training and numerous other fields.
Considering the whole feature set of both entities, it is crystal clear that these GPUs are second to none.
The H100 overpowers 4090 regarding all of its specs, but the most interesting fact is its chip size. Packing a 4nm TSMC silicon, the H100 surpasses the transistor count by a rough 5% margin and involves over 80,000 Million switches. Moreover, the H100 also includes considerably higher CUDA cores and Tensor units, tremendously increasing its performance and overall capability.
The H100 also relies on a new “Hopper” architecture. This architecture is specifically designed to enhance the data wrangling and processing ability to a whole new level. It is highly efficient in training large language models that require an unfathomable amount of data processing, alongside benefiting AI infrastructures, where this GPU is considered the center-stone for developing next-gen artificial intelligence programs.
The RTX 4090 has the most powerful graphics chip among mainstream gaming cards. This TSMC-designed chip, with its 5nm fabrication technology, withholds more than 76,000 Million transistors. Not only that, but this chip is also unconventionally large for a mainstream GPU, measuring 609mm2.

The RTX 4090 and H100 offer excessive clock speeds that are certainly enough for their applicability. However, the RTX 4090 has phenomenally higher clock speeds, ranging from 2235 – 2520 MHz, whereas the H100 offers only around 1095 -1755 MHz.
RTX 4090 has more efficient architecture and clock speeds for mainstream usage and gaming, so its speeds are very high. The H100, on the other hand, is made for professional applications, which don’t require that much clock time and keep it below a nominal temperature threshold, making it much more thermally sound than the 4090.

The H100 has a colossal VRAM of 80 GB with HBM2e-type memory that allows the fastest data transfer through a PCIe connection. It is compatible with PCIe 5.0 and features an extensive bus with a 5120-bit structure. This memory type is expensive and much faster than conventional DDR technology, evidenced by its rated bandwidth of more than 2000 GB/s for the H100.
The RTX 4090 is a high-speed GPU by usual standards, and it achieves this with a GDDR6X memory and 24 Gigabytes of video memory. Moreover, it has a highly impressive bandwidth of 1008 GB/s and utilizes a 384-bit wide memory bus.

The RTX 4090 is extremely power-hungry with its 450W TDP and connects externally to a PSU via the 16-pin connector. The H100 also uses the same connector, but its TDP is 100 Watts less than the 4090, making it much more power efficient.
However, The RTX 4090 has many display outlets with a single HDMI 2.1a port and three DP 1.4a ports. The H100 doesn’t have any because it isn’t designed for conventional use and usually works with other processing units.
